How many times have I visited Ghana, just twice. The first time was the summer of 2010 for a Study Abroad. As we speak I am thinking about where I can locate pictures, footage, or something. Give me time! This was my first international trip. A Professor approached me and ask me to attend an information session about a Ghana Study Abroad. I remember thinking, why not. I set through the information session and soon as it concluded, I called my mom to tell her we were going to Ghana. She simply stated, ” I don’t know how we’re going to afford it, but we’re going.” I was the first in my family to visit West Africa, hell the African continent at that. On a visit home from school I visited my grandfather – the late, Jimmy Lovett, Sr – to inform him of my study abroad. Once I finished speaking with him, he said, “that’s a lot of water.” He stated talking with me about him traveling to India during World War II.
Ghana Calls by W.E.B. Du Bois
“I lifted up mine eyes to Ghana
And swept the hills with high Hosanna;
Above the sun my sight took flight
Till from that pinnacle of light
I saw dropped down this earth of crimson, green and gold
Roaring with color, drums and song.”
